Help us tell a story that history almost forgot.

El Pinero tells a story most people have never heard — that American families once built lives on Cuba’s Isla de la Juventud, and that traces of that world, however faded, still exist there today. That history doesn’t appear in many textbooks. It rarely makes it to the screen. Getting it there requires traveling to one of the most logistically complicated places an American filmmaker can work, with a small crew, limited resources, and a deep commitment to getting it right.

Independent filmmaking is hard under any circumstances. Making it in Cuba — navigating permits, equipment, and the realities of working across two countries with a fractured relationship — makes it harder. What makes it possible is people who believe the story is worth telling.
